"Double Standards"

Hello all and welcome back to the second week of 'Double Standards'. This week we will be discussing a more of a taboo topic, 'cheating'.

The Majority of people who have been cheated on tend to find it a sensitive topic and prefer not to talk about it. They tend to feel upset, angry and most likely humiliated. Unfortunately, cheating is so common and people shouldn't have to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about.

Now, moving on the the double standard of cheating: if men cheat they are automatically branded as 'jerks' but if a woman cheats they are usually given a chance to somewhat justify their actions. A woman who cheats isn't seen in the same negative light the same way that men are: but is this just among my own personal circle of being female and how I see things? I tend to hear between a group of women discussing being cheated on and they tell their friends that the guy is a'dog' and isn't worth losing sleep over and yet they are still willing to give this man a second, third and even a fourth chance. On the other hand the very few conversations I've heard when men talk about cheating they don't tend to give it much attention, so it has me wondering how men really feel about cheating and whether they feel as men it's not something they should be open to discussing?..

As a female I think that whether you're a man or a woman, cheating is wrong!, but if I'm being honest I judge men more harshly than women who cheat, but I find myself judging men more harshly because as a heterosexual it's daunting to think about being cheated on and as a heterosexual woman I don't have to worry or think about being cheated on by a woman.

Another double standard I've come to find around cheating is that although women are quick to call a man that cheats on them every name under the sun, women seem to be more open and willing to take a man back but this seems less likely to happen if it was the other way around.

I think it would be interesting to hear a man's perspective and views on cheating and I would love to get a discussion going so please let me know your thoughts and opinions on cheating.

Thank you for listening :)
