Living With Anxiety

If you suffer from anxiety, you will know of some of the strange things your brain might of made you do. If you don't suffer, hopefully this post will give you an insight into what it's like to live with anxiety.

Let's start at the beginning. When I first found out I had anxiety I had already started to deal with it without knowing. That doesn't make sense right? Well for me school was the issue and by going back even after finding it hard to do so, it turned out I was slowly tackling the issue.

As my friends all know, but probably didn't understand, my ways back then were down to feeling anxious. For instance, getting off the bus a few stops down the road for the fear that I might encounter a problem. Or even the time I couldn't come out or go somewhere, due to this nagging feeling that something was going to go wrong. It was hard to deal with, and some days I felt like no one really understood as much as they did try.

The sad thing is I did miss out on a lot a few years ago, but I am happy to say I have been able to deal with anxiety… not fully, there are still days (interviews, getting to work on time, talking to new people) where I get anxious, and yes I bet your thinking that's only natural, but take that situation and multiply it by 5. I still find it hard.

If you know me and are reading this, I might not come across as an anxious person. But I can tell in certain situations that I am different to how I used to be and this is something that I find hard to change. But I'm working on it!

You might be wondering why I'm writing this, but within our project, we have explored a variety of topics people may feel uncomfortable speaking about

, or we have tried to focus on areas that deserve to be spoken about and I felt that mental health was one area's that should be addressed.

As a sufferer myself, I feel that there is sometimes a lot of stigma that comes with mental illness, but to be able to talk about what you are going through helps.

With this in mind, if you or someone you know suffers from mental illness, I urge you to talk to someone and don't face it alone. To anyone else, don't see anxiety as an excuse, things that might be easy for you to do are hard for others. Be ready to listen to their stories.
