I want to write about one of the important National Awareness Days of this month, in fact, it’s so important it takes up the whole month.
National Bed Month.

I know that you’re probably thinking that this is a ridiculous topic to talk about, maybe even to hear about, but once you have read what I have to say about this topic. You might just change your mind.
So first up, why is sleep important?
In my opinion, sleep is important because it boosts your immune system and it allows you to have renewed energy for the next day ahead. These are things I know about sleeping, along with the fact that it’s nice to just have a good relax in bed after a busy day.
But what do the professionals say about this topic?
The National Institute of Health say ‘sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety.
During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health. In children and teens, sleep also helps support growth and development.
The damage from sleep deficiency can occur in an instant (such as a car crash), or it can harm you over time (which affects how you think, react, work, learn, and get along with others.’
So they believe sleep helps keep a healthy brain function and emotional well-being, a good physical health and a stimulating daytime performance. – These are very good reasons to why sleep is so important.

How can we maintain a good night’s sleep?
The Help Guide have a list of useful points for this:
· Try to go to sleep and get up at the same time every day,
· Get as much natural sunlight as possible,
· Move vigorously during the day – don’t sit for more than an hour,
· Limit caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and big meals at night,
· Take time for relaxing activities before sleep,
· Create a calm and restful sleep environment.
Creating a restful sleep environment is also suggested by Lisa Artis of The Sleep Council who
says ‘The right bed is extremely important to health and well-being because our sleeping environment will affect the quality of our sleep – Which in turn has a big effect on how well we feel, both physically and psychologically.’
So be sure to spend this important month in making sure you have a good sleeping environment, the right bed for a restful night’s sleep and follow these few useful points to maintain those sleep filled night’s ahead.
Who’d have thought sleep could be so important?
